So for example you could unlock the synthesis hacker unit and bring it into a game where you are playing as voidtech, you spend the credits you earn in the game by doing the missions to eventually unlock the ability to build hackers in your cities like any other unit, adding an extra tool to your arsenal. It's not about starting with units or skills, it's about unlocking units, abilities and mods from other factions/techs and combining them to create a sort of hybrid. The "credits" you earn are only used within the game you earned them, you spend those credits on buying the things you chose in your loadout or a random bundle of resources similar to clearing a map POI. TBH i find it all skippable, i dont see the need to start with units or skills, maybe if i do super hard AI it could kinda maybe help super early game? Its like a great new 4x mechanic thats in its infancy and they really need to expand the game mode and put it in a new 4x.
